South Korea’s Political Circus: PM Han Back in Power, Yoon Awaits Final Judgment

Published:

In the latest episode of South Korea: Democracy Edition, the Constitutional Court has decided that Prime Minister Han Duck-soo’s impeachment was a bit too dramatic, reinstating him as acting president faster than you can say “martial law.” With a 5-1 ruling, the justices essentially shrugged and said, “Yeah, refusing to appoint judges is bad… but not that bad.”

Han, now back in the driver’s seat, graciously thanked the court for its “wise decision” and called for unity—because nothing unites a country like back-to-back impeachments, an arrested president, and a legal system working overtime. Meanwhile, President Yoon Suk Yeol, suspended and arrested for allegedly trying to overthrow democracy, is still waiting to see if he gets the boot or a hero’s welcome.

With hundreds of thousands taking to the streets—some demanding Yoon’s reinstatement, others ready to exile him to a deserted island—South Korea’s democracy is proving once again that politics is the nation’s real national sport.
